God’s Call On Your Life
Posted on February 24, 2012
Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Many of us struggle with questions like “What does God want me to do?” “What am I supposed to do with my life to serve God?” “What is God’s purpose for my life?” Don’t over-complicate this. God doesn’t want it to be complicated and He doesn’t want you to struggle with a hard decision. He wants you to follow Him; to put your trust in Him and He will guide you!
Here are some questions we can ask to help us realize what God’s call on our life may be. What am I gifted at? What do I love to do? Does this desire line up with the Word of God? Will the purpose of my desire build the kingdom of God?
The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.
Psalm 145: 18-19
Throughout the past 6-7 years, the desire to work in the world of media has grown in me day by day. In the beginning, I never thought I could make a career out of it. I never thought about using the talents God was giving me to glorify Him. But these were things that the world was telling me, not what God was saying He wanted for me. He didn’t call me to do something that I would hate doing everyday. Thankfully, he didn’t call me to be a doctor or psychologist…I would have been miserable every day! Instead, I wake up pumped about building God’s kingdom by doing what I love.
In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will, in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of His glory.
God put these desires in my heart. He blessed me with the talents and abilities to do what I do. After I stopped worrying about what the world was saying and put my trust in Him, He worked out the blessing of my current employment. Here’s the best part: not only has He blessed me with a great job, but many other areas of my life have grown exponentially. From financial blessings to personal growth, He’s shown me that if I only trust in Him, He will take care of me!
God is the ultimate dream giver and dream fulfiller! Proverbs 29:18 says “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Don’t let Satan steal the dreams that God has given you! If your dream is “too big,” and seems “impossible” then I bet God has given you that dream. Here’s why: nothing is impossible with God! If you have a dream that doesn’t require God, dream bigger. Don’t put a cap on what God is able to do with your life!
By doing what He’s called me to do, I worship God daily. What a wonderful life to live!
A Dream Birthed
God is the ultimate dream fulfiller, but I had to listen and obey. The more I listened to Him, and headed in the path that He was leading me, the bigger my dream grew. With each small step I gained confidence in knowing that He was leading me!
‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’
It Doesn’t Matter Where You Start
I studied Landscape Architecture. Awesome. What does that have to do with Graphic Design, Web Development, or Video Production? Almost nothing. But somehow, God took the major that I was studying and helped me apply the things I was learning to Media. Incredible. Only God could help me do this.
Trust God’s Timing
Time is the greatest proving ground for a dream. Stay true to God in what you’re doing; continue being faithful. God’s timing is always perfect. If the dream you have is God’s, then trust in Him to bring it to fruition at the appropriate time. He know what He’s doing far better than we do!
The enemy (Satan) will tell you things like “if it hasn’t happened yet, God must not have given that dream to you.” Remember, “The thief comes but to steal, kill, and destroy. I have come that you may have life and that you may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)” Trust in the Holy Spirit to guide you and have faith in God to fulfill your dream when it is the best time for you! Don’t allow Satan to steal what God gave you…the Devil is a dream killer.
Our God Is Able
God enables your “unableness.” Praise the Lord! There is no way I could do everything He needs me to do without Him. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I’m not in this alone, and that Philippians 4:13 is what I live by: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” It’s Him, not me!
He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.
